General Conference

This weekend was General Conference. I always look forward listening to and being inspired by the conference addresses. I also look forward to some of our traditions. On the Saturday morning session we invite our friends over. The adults get to watch and enjoy conference together and the children play together- at least that is the general plan. Then we have a wonderful meal - this year Sullivan made some most delicious French Crepes. After the meal we all went outside and enjoyed the fantastic Fall weather while the kids had fun on the playground.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday's sessions we watched conference together as a family. I planned some fun activities for the girls: coloring and conference square matching games. I also put up some tents and and put blankets and a pillows inside them. For the final session on Sunday we pampered each other as we watched conference. We all got our hair brushed/combed and Elizabeth and I even got our hair braided by daddy! Then we got out the lotion and began our hand and foot massages. Unfortunately Rachel got a bit out of control with the lotion and we had to cut that one short. Hopefully next year we can take full advantage of the massages.

In all honesty, watching conference with small children is really challenging! I was not able to listen to an entire talk uninterrupted throughout the entire conference (which is not much different from my experience with church on Sunday's). That being said, General Conference is uplifting and inspiring. Despite my lack of attentiveness, I came away with several inspired
ideas and was generally uplifted and strengthened. I really look forward to receiving the Ensign
so that I may read each of the talks in their entirety. I know there is so much more in there waiting for me to discover and receive!
